Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • Stirring spoon
  • Fine mesh sieve
  • Mugs for serving

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of apple cider
  • 1 cup of caramel syrup store-bought or homemade
  • 1/2 cup spiced rum optional, adjust to taste
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cloves
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Caramel drizzle for garnish
  • Apple slices for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat the Apple Cider: Pour your apple cider into a large saucepan and set it over medium heat.
  • Add Spices: Drop in the cinnamon sticks and cloves. Allow the cider to heat up, absorbing the spices, for about 10-15 minutes. Your kitchen should start to smell heavenly by this point.
  • Combine with Caramel: Slowly stir in the caramel syrup. Make sure it’s thoroughly mixed with the cider. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes.
  • Incorporate the Alcohol (Optional): If you’re using spiced rum, now is the time to pour it in. Stir well and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors together.
  • Strain the Cider: Remove the cinnamon sticks and cloves by straining the cider through a fine mesh sieve.
  • Serve Hot: Pour the hot spiked caramel apple cider into mugs. Top each mug with a generous dollop of whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel, and a few apple slices for garnish.
