Tips for the Perfect Muffin

Customize Your Muffin: The beauty of this recipe is its flexibility. If you're not a fan of sausage, feel free to substitute with bacon or ham. You can also change up the cheese; Swiss, American, or even pepper jack would be delicious. Don’t hesitate to get creative with condiments either. A bit of avocado or tomato can add a fresh twist to this classic.

Make-ahead Option: If you're preparing for a busy Black Friday morning, you can make these muffins ahead of time. After assembling the muffins, wrap each one tightly in aluminum foil and store them in the refrigerator. When ready to eat, just pop them in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes, or until heated through. This make-ahead option ensures you have a warm, satisfying breakfast ready in no time.

Equipment

  • Skillet for cooking sausage
  • Non-stick skillet for cooking eggs
  • Spatula
  • Toaster
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 4 English muffins split and toasted
  • 4 sausage patties
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: ketchup hot sauce, or other desired condiments

Instructions

  • Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage patties until they are brown and cooked through. This should take about 4-5 minutes per side. Once cooked, set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess grease.
  • Prepare the Eggs: While the sausages are cooking, use a separate non-stick skillet to melt the butter over medium-low heat. Crack the eggs directly into the skillet, one by one, making sure to keep them whole. Sprinkle a bit of salt and pepper over the eggs. Cook until the whites are set but the yolks are still runny, or to your preferred level of doneness. If desired, you can break the yolk for a more uniform cooking.
  • Assemble the Muffins: Toast the English muffins to your liking. On the bottom half of each muffin, place a sausage patty. Follow this with a slice of cheddar cheese and a cooked egg. You can add condiments like ketchup or hot sauce at this point, if desired. Top with the other half of the English muffin.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately while everything is still warm, and enjoy your Black Friday breakfast!
